Crabbing in Charleston

Blue Crab

Crabbing can be fun for the entire family.

Charleston's blue crabs are a delicacy and can be caught in a variety of ways.

Recreational crabbers typically us a bait that is tied to a string to attract the blue crabs. Most recreational crabbers use the infamous "chicken necks" for bait since they are cheap, durable, and crabs love them. However, I prefer to use various types of whole fish or fish carcuses.

Recreational crabbers carry basic necessities when it comes to crabbing.

Several important items include: a crab trap of some sort, a dip net, a bucket or bushel basket to store the caught crabs, crabbing gloves and a culling stick to determine if the crab is legal to keep or not.

Blue crabs at typically found in marshes, creeks, and estuaries. However, blue crabs are also found in warmer bodies of the ocean.

Blue crabs are always fun to eat when you are with friends and family. Crab recipes can be used for any type of occasion and can be used in a number of ways. The delicious whit meat can be used for appetizers, snacks, or a side item with a main course.

The crab cakes, crab stuffed mushrooms, and crab bites recipes that are included are most popular recipes that I have witnessed and used by many individuals throught the lowcountry.
